GitHub Desktop Linux

GitHub Desktop for Linux is a community-maintained fork of GitHub Desktop focused on making the official desktop Git workflow usable and installable across Linux distributions. It builds on the open-source Electron, TypeScript, and React codebase while adding Linux-first packaging, maintenance, and catch-up features.

The project provides installable .deb, .rpm, and .AppImage builds through GitHub Actions and Releases, making it easier for Linux users to clone repositories, manage branches, review changes, commit code, and stay connected to GitHub without relying only on the browser or command line. This fork also includes Linux-focused improvements such as AI-generated commit messages, changed-file filtering, organization diagnostics, and manual release workflows for maintainers.

It is not an official GitHub release channel, but it aims to keep GitHub Desktop practical, current, and accessible for Linux developers.
